Brief overview of spouse/interdependancy visa classes:
Fiancé visas. Applications for these is always made offshore and allow a fiancé to come to Australia for a period of nine months, in which to marry their Australian citizen/permanent resident sponsor. After marriage, an applicant will apply for a subclass 801 visa and will generally have to wait two years in order to obtain permanency.
Offshore spouse visas. Application is made at the same time for a Class UF, subclass 309 (temporary) spouse visa and a Class BC, subclass 100 (permanent) spouse visa. The permanent application is not usually considered until two years after the initial temporary application.
Onshore spouse visas. Application is made at the same time for a Class UK, subclass 820 (temporary) spouse visa and a Class BS, subclass 801 (permanent) spouse visa. Again, the permanent application is not usually considered until two years after the initial temporary application.
